Pyroflux 115, 135

Mildly Exothermic Injectable Cover and Drossing Flux for Aluminium Alloys

A mildly exothermic flux designed primarily as a drossing flux, but also used successfully as a cover flux in some applications

This flux depends on the coalescence of free metallics for optimum results. It relies on the heat generated by the thermitic action to separate the free metallics from the "wet" dross, to produce a dry flux. It has been engineered to react at the exact optimum temperature to maximize metal recovery.

The flux must come in contact with the dross to take advantage of its exothermic properties, allowing reaction with "wet" dross for release the free metallics, separating metal from the dross to precipitate removal resulting in a dry dross.

Temperature Ranges

  • Use at a temperaure of 1325ºF (718ºC) or higher.

Flux Features

  • As a cover or drossing flux, add at the rate of ¼ inch (6 mm) across the entire surface of the furnace.
  • To avoid excessive smoking caused by separation of ingredient “fines” attaching to the roof and walls of the furnace, broadcast the flux by “laying” it out evenly over the surface of the dross.
  • For mechanical application with a flux gun, use the minimum amount of pressure when spraying.
  • Utilize at the metal line to aid in reduction of build-up.
For injection flux applications, add at the rate suggested by the rotary degassing unit manufacturer.

Physical Properties and Blend Variations

  • Pyroflux 115 is a beige-white powder flux containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium silicofluoride, sodium carbonate and calcium fluoride.
  • Pyroflux 135 is a beige-white powder flux containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium silicofluoride and calcium fluoride.
  • Pyroflux 115 contains the addition of sodium carbonate to assist in producing a dry dross.

Quality castings begin with proper fluxing practices. Contact your Pyrotek Sales Engineer to determine the appropriate flux for your operation. 866-Pyrotek (866-797-6835)
